The Walking Dead Season 9 Finale Review
Warning: Full spoilers for The Walking Dead's Season 9 finale, "The Storm."
"The Storm" may not have given me exactly what I needed/wanted, regarding my asinine wish list for a Season 9 finale, but it did lift us up and out of the death toll-heaviness from last week's "The Calm Before." It's still technically aftermath, but we've skipped ahead a few months later. We're not dealing with instant ramifications of Alpha's brutal beheadings.
Sure, the end of "The Calm Before" established that a few days had gone by before the credits rolled, but getting an actual mini-jump this week helped the story immensely. And I really liked the staging of these final three Season 9 chapters: The flashback-heavy ep followed by the shocking body count (which would usually be a finale) followed by a totally different adventure/crucible altogether.

Avengers: Endgame: Marvel Toys May Reveal Thanos' New Weapon
Potential spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel has given us our first look at new statues and action figures of characters in Avengers: Endgame, and the Thanos statue may have revealed a new weapon for the Mad Titan that may be used in the upcoming film.
Marvel and Diamond Select Toys have partnered to bring this Marvel Movie Milestone "Avengers: Endgame" Thanos Resin Statue to life. It sits at 16-inches tall, will cost roughly $500, and only 1,000 are being made.
The statue features Thanos ready for battle in his armor, with an in-tact Infinity Gauntlet and something new - a dual-bladed weapon that very much fits with Thanos' philosophy that everything must be perfectly balanced.

Games for Your Inner Historian
I love history. I have historical books, movies and texts on every shelf at home and a big fat history degree on my wall that’s mostly useful for… well, articles like this.
Being a history nerd also means that when a game takes inspiration from a particular historical epoch, it makes me all the more interested. I know that history isn’t for everyone, and not every game needs a solid historical basis, but I’ve always seen games as a way to explore thoughts and ideas in a way that no other medium can - and not everyone wants to sit through a three-hour lecture on the Russian revolution.
So let’s take a look at a handful of games and game series that have built an incredible experience on top of a solid historical underpinning. To be clear, these aren’t experiences that will give you a totally realistic depiction of a time period, but they do give you some of the flavour of the age; whether that’s culture, politics, warfare or any number of other elements. And yes, because I can’t resist I’ll also point you in the direction of further information to complement - or build upon - what you might get out of each game.

Siege of Aiguillon
The Siege of Aiguillon commenced on 1 April 1346 during the Hundred Years' War, when a French army commanded by John, Duke of Normandy, laid siege to the Gascon town of Aiguillon. The town, with strategic command of the rivers Garonne and Lot, was defended by Anglo-Gascon forces under Ralph, Earl of Stafford. The garrison, some 900 men, sortied repeatedly to interrupt the French operations, while Henry, Earl of Lancaster, concentrated the main Anglo-Gascon force at La Réole as a threat. Duke John, the son and heir of Philip VI, was never able to fully blockade the town. By August, the seriously harassed French supply lines had broken down, there was a dysentery epidemic in their camp, desertion was rife, and Philip was demanding that John's force join up with the main French army. On 20 August the French abandoned the siege and marched away. Six days later Philip's army was decisively beaten by the main English army in the Battle of Crécy, two weeks before John's force arrived in the north.

Even with the multitude of characters The Walking Dead has killed off over the years - the mounds and mountains of bodies that have piled up - it still has the largest ensemble on TV.
As we regroup after Season 9's penultimate episode, "The Calm Before, given the high body count that came with it, the show still has a couple dozen names and faces to juggle. And our feelings about most of them, a solid 75 percent of them, range from intolerance to indifference.

Georgetown Car Barn
The Car Barn is a historic building in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Designed by the American architect Waddy Butler Wood, it was built between 1895 and 1897 by the Capital Traction Company as a union terminal for several Washington and Virginia streetcar lines. The Exorcist steps, later named after their appearance in William Friedkin's 1973 horror film The Exorcist, were built during the initial construction to connect M Street with Prospect Street. Almost immediately after its construction, it was converted to accommodate electric streetcars. The building has undergone several renovations, the most extensive in 1911, when the original Romanesque Revival façade was significantly modified and the interior was almost completely gutted. Changing ownership over time, it maintained its original function of housing streetcars until 1950, when it was redeveloped as office space. Today, it is used as an academic building by Georgetown University.

Our Spoiler-Free Thoughts on Agents of SHIELD's Season 6 Premiere
This is a spoiler-free early review of the Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Season 6 premiere, which was shown to fans at WonderCon ahead of its May 10 debut.

If you've already caught the Season 6 trailers that Marvel and ABC have been running since January, it's no spoiler to say that while our beloved Agent Phil Coulson is (as far as we know), truly, officially dead following the events of Season 5, Clark Gregg still shows up on camera, as well as behind it. Coulson appears as a hologram giving Mac leadership advice, but we're also introduced to a mysterious man in black who shares Coulson's face but, when challenged that he's "from SHIELD," coldly retorts, "never heard of it."

Check Out This Tiny N64 Console Dock for Nintendo Switch
Hyperkin, makers of retro and modern gaming peripherals, had its latest old-school homage on display at PAX East 2019 in Boston: the RetroN S64 Console Dock for Nintendo Switch.
The tiny Jungle Green N64 has 3 USB ports, as well as USB-C for power and HDMI for TV play. Unlike most docks, Hyperkin's RetroN S64 Console Dock can be used either as a stand-alone charging dock or as a TV dock. Check out some images of the RetroN S64 Console Dock from PAX East.
There's a toggle button on the RetroN S64 in place of where the cover for the Extension Pak bay on the original N64 is. Pressing the button lets you play in the same way Nintendo's stand-alone charging dock does, with the added benefit of switching it back to play on the TV. It's small enough to toss into any bag, making it a great choice for traveling with your Nintendo Switch.

Note: this is a spoiler-free review of Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, which is screening at WonderCon today and is also available in Digital HD. The Blu-ray will be released on April 16.
Justice League vs. The Fatal Five has multiple selling points for DC animation fans. On one hand, it features the return of the much-loved DC Animated Universe (the setting of classic shows like Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited). On the other, it ventures off the beaten path to spotlight heroes who don't normally get their due in DC's animated projects. Both of these make DC's 34th "DC Universe Original Movie" worth watching, even if this effort never quite realizes its full potential.

Discovery Review: Burnham's Real Origin Revealed
Full spoilers follow for this episode.
Star Trek: Discovery regains its stride with "Perpetual Infinity" after last week’s exposition-heavy outing, and while this segment is also chockfull of plot and technical techings of the tech, it’s got enough action and character to balance things out nicely.
It all starts with a flashback to Burnham’s childhood, and more specifically to that fateful day when her parents were killed by marauding Klingons while she hid in a closet and listened to them die. It’s nice to see the family just being a normal family at first -- until it all goes horribly wrong and Michael’s life is irrevocably altered. But whereas we previously believed Michael’s folks were both killed that day, we see here that her mom attempted to escape via the Red Angel time-travel suit that she was working on. Alas, her plan went awry, and she essentially wound up lost in time.

Sega Announces Four New Games Based on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Sega has announced four new games based on the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The first of these is titled Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game, which will be released in Japan and Asia this summer for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and worldwide in 2020. Sega describes this as “a fun-filled sports action game where you can create your own avatar and compete in Olympic Games events with people around the world.” Rather than featuring Sonic or other characters, it appears to have a more realistic – if simplistic – art style.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will then hit Nintendo Switch during winter 2019. From the footage and screenshots released, it appears to be similar to previous Mario & Sonic titles release by Sega at previous Olympics, with a collection of mini games themed around different sports, and will make use of the Joy-Con features. As with the Rio Olympics title, there will also be an Arcade Edition launching at a similar time, which will use physical inputs such as jumping.

Tolkien Movie Cast Reveals Which Lord of the Rings Characters They Would Be
Warning! Some spoilers for what we saw at the presentation.
J.R.R. Tolkien is probably the best-known fantasy author of all-time. His sprawling stories include The Lord of the Rings trilogy and its prequel, The Hobbit, both of which have defined much of the fantasy genre. In a new film from Fox Searchlight, the writer's origin story will be explored with Nicholas Hoult playing the iconic creator. During a panel at WonderCon, the cast and crew shared their thoughts about bringing the story to the screen.
Moderated by Cliff Broadway, the panel began with a rousing round of applause for J.R.R. Tolkien led by the man behind the fansite OneRing.net who was clearly ecstatic to be in the Anaheim Convention Center celebrating the writer who has had such a profound impact on his life. After playing the teaser trailer which was released earlier this year, the room was introduced to the director, Dome Karukoski, and cast members Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Nicholas Hoult, who was fresh off the Dark Phoenix panel.

Albert Pierrepoint
Albert Pierrepoint (30 March 1905 – 10 July 1992) was an English hangman who executed between 435 and 600 people in a 25-year career that ended in 1956. His first execution was in December 1932, assisting his uncle Thomas. His father Henry had also been a hangman. In October 1941 he undertook his first hanging as lead executioner. During his tenure he hanged 200 people who had been convicted of war crimes in Germany and Austria, as well as several high-profile murderers—including Gordon Cummins (the Blackout Ripper), John Haigh (the Acid Bath Murderer) and John Christie (the Rillington Place Strangler). He undertook several contentious executions, including Timothy Evans, Derek Bentley and Ruth Ellis. He executed William Joyce (also known as Lord Haw-Haw) and John Amery for high treason, and Theodore Schurch for treachery. In the 2005 film Pierrepoint he was portrayed by Timothy Spall.

Bethesda Will Not Discuss The Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield at E3 2019
Bethesda has confirmed that it will not be discussing either The Elder Scrolls 6 or Starfield at E3 2019.
During the Bethesda Game Days stream at PAX East 2019, Todd Howard cautioned fans hoping for more details on two of the most anticipated games in the industry that they would need to wait a bit longer.
"Before everyone asks, please be patient," Howard said. "It’s going to be a long time. It’s not something we’re going to be talking about at e3, either of those games, this year. Patience, please."
Both The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield were announced at E3 2018, although very little details were given of either except that these would be brand-new 'next-gen' games, one of a few we already believe are in development for the new systems.

While the response to Artifact was generally positive, complaints rose around its monetization model and lack of progression mechanics. As a result, its player base declined rapidly, and Artifact’s average concurrent player count for the last month currently sits at a meager 359 at the time of publishing this.

Netflix's The Dirt Review
It’s easy to assume that everyone would be interested in watching a biopic about famous musicians. Being able to witness the events leading to stardom, learning how some of their hits were made, gaining new insight about a particular scandal – all of it is fascinating to a degree. And as long as there’s a good balance between factual events and dramatized moments, the film should resonate with viewers. Or at the very least, be tolerable. Thankfully, Netflix’s The Dirt is more than just tolerable. It’s mostly entertaining.
Directed by Jeff Tremaine and based on the book The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, the film provides a seemingly unfiltered look into the past exploits of Mötley Crüe – an American rock band in every sense of the notion. There’s sex, drugs, and of course Rock and Roll. Beyond that, though, is the depiction of real people. People who’ve struggled with vices, experienced heartache, and through it all, managed to create some (arguably) timeless music.

Who's Stronger: Superman or Shazam?
With Shazam! hitting theaters soon, the Man of Steel and Earth’s Mightiest Mortal now exist in the same cinematic universe… which means we can all debate something that’s confounded comics fans for decades. Who’s the strongest DC hero of them all - Superman or Shazam?
The answer isn’t nearly as clear-cut as you might think. Both Superman and Shazam have a similar lineup of powers. They’re both incredibly strong, invulnerable and have the ability to fly at great speeds. And where Superman has heat vision, cold breath and other useful powers, Shazam can call down lightning and even bestow part of his power to other heroes. It’s a pretty even match-up, all things considered.
In terms of raw strength, most comics stories seem to give the edge to Superman. Not only is he one of the most powerful beings in superhero comics, his strength seems limited only by the imagination of the writer. Back in the Silver Age, Superman could basically do whatever the story demanded of him. And even though his powers have been toned down a bit in modern times, comics like All-Star Superman have suggested his strength can be measured in the quintillions of tons. Not bad for a humble farm boy from Kansas.
