Simon Hatley
Simon Hatley (1685 – after 1723) was an English sailor involved in two hazardous privateering voyages to the South Pacific Ocean. With his ship beset by storms south of Cape Horn, Hatley shot an albatross, an incident immortalised by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (illustrated). Hatley went to sea in 1708 under Captain Woodes Rogers, but was captured by the Spanish on the coast of Ecuador and was tortured by the Inquisition. Hatley's second voyage, under George Shelvocke, was the source of the albatross incident, recorded in Shelvocke's journal for 1 October 1719, and also ended with his capture by the Spanish, who held him as a pirate for looting a Portuguese ship. Hatley returned to Britain in 1723, though he hastily sailed to Jamaica lest he risk trial for piracy. His fate thereafter is unknown. In 1797, Wordsworth suggested Hatley's shooting of an albatross as the basis of a poem, which Coleridge published in Lyrical Ballads (1798).

IFF Mark II
IFF Mark II was the first operational identification friend or foe system, developed by the Royal Air Force just before World War II. The Mark I, its predecessor, amplified the signals of the British Chain Home radar systems, triggering a radar display blip. It required manual tuning, and operators could not always distinguish between an enemy aircraft and a friendly one with a maladjusted IFF. The Mark II, deployed at the end of the Battle of Britain in late 1940, fixed this problem with an automatic gain control and three automatic tuners that covered a wider selection of radars. The Mark II's frequencies were sufficient for the early war period, but by 1942 many more radars were in use, including incompatible ones based on the cavity magnetron. The IFF Mark III eliminated the multiple tuners and operated on a single frequency that could be used with any radar; it entered service in 1943 and quickly replaced the Mark II.

Chartwell
Chartwell is an English country house near the town of Westerham, Kent. For over forty years it was the home of Winston Churchill, who lived there until shortly before his death in January 1965. In the 1930s, when Churchill was excluded from political office, Chartwell became the centre of his world. At his dining table, he gathered those who could assist his campaign against German re-armament and the British government's response of appeasement; in his study, he composed speeches and wrote books; in his garden, he built walls, constructed lakes and painted. During the Second World War Chartwell was largely unused, until Churchill lost the 1945 election. In 1953, when he was again Prime Minister, the house became his refuge after a debilitating stroke. From the garden front, the house has extensive views over the Weald of Kent. It was opened to the public by the National Trust in 1966.

Stocksbridge Park Steels F.C.
Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club is an English association football club based in the Stocksbridge area of Sheffield. Due to league re-organisation, they now play in Division One South East. Is Brie Larson Teasing She's in Kevin Feige's Star Wars Movie?
Brie Larson's latest Tweet has caused a potential disturbance in the Force, as the Captain Marvel star posted a picture of her in full Jedi garb alongside C-3PO, saying "Did someone say Star Wars?!"

Evil: Series Premiere Review
Every so often, CBS will attempt to draw outside the lines a little bit. To branch out a smidge beyond their primetime "crimetime" adventure procedurals. This season, they're placing all their supernatural eggs in a basket called Evil - a new "in the vein of X-Files" series from Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King.
Whereas The X-Files was all about UFOs, little green men, and whether or not they existed, Evil asks the same question of demons. It's faith-based monsters our team is tracking here, headed by the sublimely confused David Acosta, played by Luke Cage's Mike Colter. David works for the Catholic Church as an assessor of sorts. He interviews murderers, especially those who claim to have been controlled by dark forces from Hell, to determine which cases are phony and which require an exorcism house call.

Joker Costumes Banned From Landmark Theaters' Screenings
Landmark Theaters has chosen to ban all costumes during Joker's theatrical run in a move to ensure its moviegoers feel comfortable seeing the upcoming film.
As reported by THR, Landmark Theaters, which is the United States' largest independent cinema chain, is adding costumes to its list of regularly banned items that include face masks and toy weapons.
"I want customers to be comfortable in their surroundings," Landmark president-CEO Ted Mundroff told THR.
AMC Theaters, on the other hand, has chosen to still allow costumes, stating "Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks, face paint or any object that conceals the face. AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the moviegoing experience."

Mount Mazama
Mount Mazama is a complex volcano in the American part of the Cascade Range whose collapsed caldera holds Crater Lake (pictured), the nation's deepest freshwater body, at 1,943 feet (592 m). In North America, only Great Slave Lake in Canada is deeper. Mount Mazama, within Crater Lake National Park, is in the Oregon segment of the Cascade Volcanic Arc. The mountain's elevation before its climactic eruption about 7,700 years ago was around 12,000 feet (3,700 m), but is now 8,157 feet (2,486 m). Mount Mazama formed as a group of overlapping volcanic edifices including shield volcanoes and small composite cones, becoming active intermittently until its big eruption. Mazama is dormant, but the United States Geological Survey says that eruptions on a smaller scale are likely, and that these could pose a threat to its surroundings. Indigenous people have inhabited the area around Mazama and Crater Lake for at least 10,000 years.

Why I Think Kevin Feige Will Leave Marvel for Lucasfilm
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is heading to a galaxy far, far away. But I’m convinced it’s not just for one movie. No, I’ve long suspected Feige will sooner than later leave Marvel to take over Lucasfilm, since the super-producer is a lifelong Star Wars fan who has cited the franchise as inspiration for the MCU.
As The Hollywood Reporter’s recent report illuminated, Feige will now be developing his own Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm. But it wasn’t that long ago that informed speculation had it that Feige was in line for the top job at Lucasfilm. Entertainment journalist Richard Rushfield’s newsletter The Ankler claimed in 2018 that Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy might get pushed out after the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Deadline then quashed rumors it had heard that Kevin Feige would assume control of Lucasfilm. Feige himself also shot down the rumor when /Film asked him if he would be involved with the future of Star Wars: “No. Only in my backyard with my action figures.”

PT Hack Reveals Terrifying Unused Secret
YouTuber Lance McDonald is arguably the internet’s greatest P.T. detective, but their last discovery from Hideo Kojima’s Playable Teaser for Silent Hills might be the creepiest yet. An unused version of P.T.’s bathroom area may hint at just how far P.T. could have gone to scare players.
Spoilers Ahead
In P.T. players are trapped in an unassuming home, forced to make laps around the same hallway over and over again. After a while, players can gain access to another part of the hallway, the bathroom. As McDonald explains in his YouTube video, there are two “states” the bathroom can be found in, a version where the bathtub is partially filled with water, and a version where the bathtub is empty.

Stumptown: Season 1 Premiere Review
Cobie Smulders has moved from the big screen back to the small screen, from the MCU to - well - an altogether different type of comic book adaptation.
Stumptown, based on a series of acclaimed graphic novels by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth, is a fiery and frenetic P.I. series with flare to spare. Smulders is a wonderful fit here, infusing traumatized Marine Dex Parios with enough down-on-her-luck charm to portray a barely-competent investigator.
Supporting her special needs brother, Ansel (Cole Sibus), shouldering a gambling debt, and harboring deep emotional wounds from a past wartime love, Dex is the best kind of gumshoe to follow: a flawed, self-sabotaging siren who, at least in this first episode, stumbles her way to victory. You want your underdog heroes to accumulate cuts and bruises, both physical and spiritual, as they reluctantly champion justice. They'll start out doing the job for money but eventually finish it for pride. In this regard, Stumptown is a prickly pleasure.

It's Always Sunny: Season 14 Premiere Review
While Dennis and Mac attempt to AirBnB their way into a Rom-Com meat-cute (meat cube?), Frank and Charlie try to rope in Euro-strays for swinging sexual escapades in Always Sunny's Season 14 premiere - an episode directed by Sunny star Glenn Howerton.
Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld opted to close up shop on Seinfeld when it was at the absolute top of the ratings heap, choosing to go out on a high. Truthfully, they could have kept the show going for many years more. Always Sunny is proof of that, as there will never be a time when The Gang falls out of fashion. The same could be said for South Park, in a certain regard. As long as there's a gathering of idiots and/or ethically flexible characters willing to debate social norms or have a go at a handful of harebrained schemes, you've got yourself a season's worth of mirth.

Kevin Feige Developing Star Wars Movie for Disney
Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige is adding Star Wars to his resume. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feige is working on a new Star Wars movie with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy.
THR quotes Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn as saying, "We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together."

Mario Kart Tour Review in Progress
Nintendo’s mobile efforts have been divisive to say the least. Since the launch of Super Mario Run in 2016 it has struggled to combine its traditional quality of gameplay with mobile’s monetization in a fair and effective way. Few people seemed happy with Mario Run’s premium price of $10, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’s dearth of content made it less than exciting to invest in, and Dragalia Lost, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Dr. Mario World all used familiar but frustrating microtransaction tactics that worked against the gameplay. After racing through the early hours of Mario Kart Tour, it seems Nintendo is still struggling with this difficult hurdle in this free-to-play version for iOS and Android. The price tags next to Tour’s microtransactions are surprisingly big, but the actual driving works well and often feels impressively similar to a traditional Mario Kart game.
