It looks like Disney is looking to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, with Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick in early talks to pen the script.
As reported by Deadline, not much else is known about the potential reboot, other than Jerry Bruckheimer will continue to act as producer for the franchise. It is currently unclear if Johnny Depp, who famously played Captain Jack Sparrow in the current five films in the franchise, will be involved in the reboot.
This proposed reboot runs counter to rumors that a Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in development, though it’s possible the films are one and the same. These rumors suggested that the writers of Dead Men Tell No Tales, Jeff Nathanson and Terry Rossio, were working on the script, and that the film’s co-director Joachim Rønning would return to helm the project.
