Young Justice Brings the Funny Back

Warning: Full spoilers for Young Justice: Outsiders episodes 4, 5 and 6 below.

The main takeaway from these first two weeks' worth of new Young Justice episodes is that the series really hasn't lost its appeal for being stuck in limbo for so long. The show is quickly building on the foundation laid in the first two seasons, making use of new characters and old favorites alike. And where the season's first story arc failed to channel the show's distinctive sense of humor, that problem is quickly and decisively dealt with in Week 2.

Looking back now, the problem seems less that Young Justice lost its humorous streak in the move to DC Universe and more that there simply wasn't much room for quips and slapstick in last week's Markovia storyline. That's the problem when you deal with subjects like human trafficking. "Private Security" played like an apology for the new seasons grim start. It shifted things in a much goofier direction, playing on the fact that Roy takes his new private security job just a wee bit too seriously. That episode made for a great palette cleanser and quickly quelled any fears that Young Justice might have become too dark and adult-oriented for its own good.
