This interview contains spoilers for Supergirl Season 4, episode 15, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Jon Cryer is no stranger to the Superman universe - as Super-fans know, he previously played Lenny Luthor, nephew of Lex, in the critically-derided Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. In fact, it was that role (and the reaction to it) that helped convince the Two and a Half Men star that he should take another swing at the Luthor family tree when the producers of Supergirl came knocking.
"I loved the comics as a kid, and part of the reason that I did Superman 4 was because Superman: The Movie, the first one, changed my life," Cryer told reporters at a recent Supergirl screening. "I think I was 14 years old and the tagline was 'You will believe a man can fly,' and boy I bought it... Superman 4 had very high hopes, but unfortunately was very disappointing to people, and that had always sort of hurt me in a very 14-year-old boy way. And so, I thought, 'this is my chance to do it right.'"
