Last year, I got the chance to head to the Pinewood set of Men in Black: International. As someone who was unusually obsessed with the first film in particular, I came armed with questions.
Thankfully, in talking to cast and crew, I got my answers - from how this riffs and twists the buddy cop formula of the first three entries, to whether Will Smith will actually put in an appearance. Here's what I learned.
It’s Not a Reboot, But It Is Familiar
The inclusion of Emma Thompson’s O and the iconic New York MiB office makes it clear from the outset that International is a follow-on rather than a reboot, but it’ll be drawing on some familiar plot points to get us back into the Men In Black universe. Tessa Thompson’s M is the central figure here, a girl who witnessed an alien event and wasn’t properly neuralyzed, and grew up desperate to uncover and join the organisation that she saw that day. Upon finding them, she’s trained and sent on probation to the London office - and here’s where things get similar.
