In terms of sheer tonal variety, this week's Doom Patrol might be the show's wackiest to date. "Beard Patrol" introduces one of the most bizarre villains in the entire DC Universe, even as it sheds light in the tragic past of Niles Caulder and steers the team toward their inevitable showdown with Mr. Nobody. A lot of shows might struggle to balance such extremes of silly and serious subject matter, but it's all in a day's work for Doom Patrol.
