While Spider-Man: far From Home is intended to be the epilogue to Phase 3 of the MCU, the latest trailer also dropped a huge bombshell with potentially massive ramifications for the future of this shared universe. The events of Avengers: Endgame have apparently opened the doors to an entire Marvel multiverse.
From setting up the X-Men to expanding the scope of SHIELD, here are the ways in which Far From Home's multiverse reveal could play out in future MCU projects.
Introducing the X-Men and Fantastic Four
The most obvious benefit of introducing the multiverse concept is that it allows Marvel Studios to easily introduce the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU. Those characters had been off-limits until Disney's purchase of 21st Century Fox was completed earlier this year. That delayed introduction creates certain storytelling problems going forward. How does Marvel explain why these two teams didn't show up before now? If Wolverine has been clawing up bad guys for decades, why didn't he show up to help fight Thanos in Endgame?
